The Association of Municipalities of the French Way brings together the eleven Galician towns through which runs the main and most emblematic of all the Xacobean routes to the cathedral of Santiago. The French Way has an unparalleled historical and cultural relevance. It was since the Middle Ages, and still is, the busiest route to Compostela.
The entrance of the Camino in Galicia marks the final stretch of a route that crosses the Iberian Peninsula, being of vital importance both for its heritage value and for its social, cultural and economic impact. The Mancomunidad works in coordination with all its member municipalities to preserve this legacy, manage its sustainable development and promote its recognition at an international level, guaranteeing adequate attention to pilgrims and the protection of the natural and cultural environment that characterizes this unique route.
Over the centuries, this route has forged a unique identity. The Mancomunidad articulates common policies among its members focused on the improvement of infrastructure, the enhancement of cultural heritage and the promotion of sustainable tourism initiatives. In this way, it ensures the preservation of a path that is, at the same time, a spiritual, cultural and social experience of worldwide scope, with a direct impact on the economic fabric and welfare of local communities.
Intermunicipal coordination also seeks to reinforce the importance of this itinerary within Galicia, both regionally and internationally, promoting its status as a universal symbol of cultural exchange and coexistence between peoples.
